Your commitment explained

We rely on income from our fundraising events to fund our vital work in rural Africa. As such, signing up to a fundraising challenge with Build Africa is a big, but rewarding, commitment. Below we outline what we expect from our fundraisers, and what you can expect from us too. 

Registration fee 

The registration fee is paid directly to the company organising the event or is used to cover administration costs. This needs to be paid in full when you book your event and is non-refundable. 
All event registrations are subject to availability and Build Africa reserves the right to refuse an application from any individual. 

Minimum fundraising amount 

Every charity place represents a valuable and important source of income for Build Africa. We have made a financial investment to be able to offer places at events. We therefore ask each charity place participant to commit to raising a minimum fundraising amount in return for their guaranteed place. The minimum fundraising amount has been set to ensure that Build Africa can cover the cost of their investment and contribute the maximum amount to continue the vital work we do with children in rural Africa. 

We will give you lots of support right along your journey with us. From fundraising tips to suggested wording, and training tips to diet recommendations – we’re here for you. However, if you are unable to meet the minimum fundraising amount you’ve agreed to, you must make up the balance yourself. Gift Aid is not included in your fundraising total. 

For all events, the full minimum fundraising amount must be received by Build Africa within six weeks following the event. 

Health and fitness 

You must ensure that, to the best of your knowledge, your general state of health and fitness is good. You should discuss any known medical conditions with a doctor, and you take full responsibility for any training you undertake. 

You take part in any event at your own risk. If you sustain an injury and are no longer able to take part, you should notify Build Africa as soon as possible as we may be able to transfer your place to another participant or arrange to defer your entry to the following year. 

Overseas and trekking events 

If you're taking part in an overseas or trekking event for Build Africa, you should be aware that we are unable to take responsibility for your health or wellbeing on these trips. You will need to arrange your own health and travel insurance before your departure to cover theft, travel disruptions or medical emergencies. 

You should direct any questions about your trip to the third-party organiser that you have booked with - e.g. Discover Adventure. 

There are usually two options to fund your challenge event: 

* Minimum sponsorship: You agree to raise the minimum fundraising amount and pay 80% of it by a set date (sometimes 10 weeks before departure). If you are unable to raise the funds, you will be unable to take part in the event without making up the balance yourself. 

* Pay the trip cost: You pay for the cost of your trip upfront. This will cover (where applicable) flights, meals, permits, accommodation, experience leadership, medical back-up and more. By choosing this option, 100% of your fundraising will go to Build Africa. 

Publicity 

By taking part in an event you agree that your name, and any images, videos, or quotes taken during the event can be used to publicise future Build Africa events. We won't use the details of anyone under the age of 16 without the consent of their legal guardian.

Communication preferences 

As a supporter of Build Africa, we’d love to keep you up to date with our work - including the difference your gifts are making, other ways you can support us and campaigns and events you may be interested in. We will never share or sell your details. 

As an events fundraiser we will keep you up to date with any administrative information regarding your event that we feel is required, and this sits outside of the above marketing preferences.
