East Africa food crisis: a sustainable response

East Africa food crisis: a sustainable response

Drought and conflict have left 16 million people in east Africa on the brink of starvation and in urgent need of food, water and medical treatment.

In Kenya, over two million men, women and children are facing starvation, causing the Government to declare the drought a national emergency.

Kwale County, one of the counties where Build Africa works, has been affected and Build Africa is urgently fundraising in order to provide long term access to clean drinking water to 72 schools and their communities.

Build Africa also enables access to community based financial services through our Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs). This helps parents to invest in their children’s education but also to save for the future so they are better prepared for the devastating effects of adverse weather.

We focus on long term sustainable solutions to ensure that the schools and communities we support have a safe water supply to mitigate the impact of droughts such as this.

We believe in effective long term solutions to help people out of poverty but we can’t do any of this without your help. Your support today will help generations of children, parents, famers and teachers fight the vicious cycle created by unforeseen disasters, so they can look forward to a future free from handouts.
